. Let's protect the earth together
From 2021, the production and sale of disposable plastic swabs and disposable foamed plastic tableware will be prohibited nationwide; the use of non degradable plastic bags
straws will be prohibited in the catering industry nationwide, but straws for milk, drinks and other food packages will not be prohibited temporarily.
Why should non degradable plastic bags be banned nationwide? Let's talk about the history of plastic development first. In 1909, the first kind of synthetic plastics phenolic plastics appeared. In 1920, another kind of synthetic plastics - amino plastics (aniline formaldehyde plastics) was born. At that time, these two kinds of plastics played a positive role in promoting the development of electrical industry and instrument manufacturing industry. Now plastic is more used in people's life and work. It can be said that plastic is useless. Although plastic provides people with a lot of convenience, it makes our ecological environment produce a lot of pollution, causing great harm to the environment.
Plastics are synthetic macromolecular polymers, which are difficult to degrade naturally in the environment. The following is the impact on four aspects:
1、 It affects the development of agriculture.
Plastic products mixed in the soil will affect the crops to absorb nutrients and water for a long time, damage the quality of the soil, and lead to crop yield reduction. If the waste plastic is buried in the soil, it will be degraded for more than 200 years. It makes the soil environment worse.
2、 It is a threat to the survival of animals.
If animals swallow waste plastics, they will die. In 2012, nearly a thousand sheep of 20 herdsmen died on the Bank of Qinghai Lake, resulting in an economic loss of more than 300000 yuan. Sheep like to eat oily residues wrapped in plastic bags, but they often eat them together. Due to the long-term retention of the plastic in the stomach, these sheep's stomach was full, and they could no longer eat, and finally they could only starve to death. Such things are common in zoos, pastoral areas, rural areas and oceans.
3、 The impact on marine life.
According to BBC Radio, about 10 million tons of plastic disappear in the ocean every year. In 2010, scientists from the National Center for ecological analysis and integration and the University of Georgia estimated that the figure was 8 million tons and was expected to increase to 9.1 million tons by 2015. The same study, published in Science in 2015, investigated the treatment of marine plastic waste in 192 coastal countries, and showed that Asian countries accounted for 13 of the 20 largest plastic waste emitters.
Asia is the world's largest producer of marine plastic waste
Both China and the United States are big producers of plastic waste, with a high per capita waste rate. Plastic waste piles up in the ocean, and the wind creates a whirlpool of gyres that can suck in any floating debris. There are five circulations in the world, the most famous of which is probably the North Pacific circulation. It is estimated that it takes about six years for debris to travel from the coast of the United States to the North Pacific circulation center, while it takes about one year for debris to travel from Japan.
How long will marine plastic waste degrade?
All five circulations have higher concentrations of plastic waste than the rest of the ocean. They are made up of tiny pieces of plastic that seem to float below the surface of the sea, a phenomenon known as "plastic soup.". The wear resistance of most plastics means that many plastic items may take hundreds of years to degrade. However, action to clean up the North Pacific circulation has already begun, and the action led by ocean cleanup, a non-profit organization, will begin in 2018.
